Mimmo Scognamiglio presents The Last Supper by Gavin Turk. The artist presents a series of fading flowers, discarded vessels and used quotidian packaging that sits balanced between presence and disappearance. Flowers glitch in and out of perspective, through layers of paint, appearing to dissolve into the canvas, appearing less as objects than as memories of objects. Left beyond their moment of display, they become reminders of times passage and the fragility of value itself. At the centre of the exhibition is a monumental painting of discarded consumer packaging, collected by the artist, and arranged before creating a time capsule on the canvas. The composition echoes The Last Supper, replacing the figures with the remnants of contemporary consumption. The exhibition and works incorporated draw upon the thinking of Walter Benjamin and his notion of the dialectical image, where past and present collide in a moment of recognition. Religious imagery, art history and consumer culture converge, ruins of the past and ruins of the future, are apparent and always in the forefront of the artists mind – inviting reflection on what contemporary society chooses to value. In a separate room Artist’s Piss a work from 2021, in which artist canned his own piss plays homage to Piero Manzoni’s Merda d’Artista (1961), in which Manzoni tined his own shit and priced it at the market value of Gold, Turk canning his own urine valued his at the price of silver, the artist is the contemporary alchemist, creating order out of ordure. The artist states ‘value is a paradox, you are drawn to objects or moments in time through their cultural value or through their assumed value, I am interested in posing the question what is it that you value? And why?’

Ben Brown Fine Arts, Hong Kong is pleased to present ‘Betwixt’ an exhibition bringing together three distinct and recent bodies of painting by British artist Gavin Turk. Doors, candles and still life’s fill the gallery, the colour pallete a subtle warmth hue - domestic anthropology defined by Turk ‘as the exploration of the domestic, with the question of value, and the act of re-noticing’.The works are each a study in liminal states, poised between presence and absence, arrival and departure. They hold a comfort, yet an unsettling feeling – each preserving an action that has just taken place, be it an extinguished candle, a door left ajar, or a selection of quotidian objects set in a scene: something we feel we have seen before, yet something has changed. Here the domestic reveals itself as the orginal site of the uncanny (the unheimlich, literally the un-homely’) where the most familiar surrounds are the ones most capable of estrangement. The works all share a common structure, a familiar image, borrowed from art history or daily life, subtly destabilised until it becomes a threshold rather than a fixed thing, in the manner of Magritte’s surrealist doors, candles and bottles – objects rendered strange precisely through their exactness. The exhibition takes it title form the old English word ‘Betwixt’ defined as the idea of being caught between two conditions, a state that Turk has explored for more than three decades now through his interrogation of authorship, value and belief. Each work within the series takes it’s starting point from an art historical master, the Candles from the series KERZE, reminiscent of Gerhard Richter’s photorealist candle paintings. The Still Life’s, hold a familiar frame and feel to those by Giorgio Marandi, however the objects in this series are current and domestic discarded packaging elevated by the assemblage and capturing by the artist hand. The Door paintings life size are titled after a number of artists that predate Turk, Duchamp, Richter, Hammershøi, de Chirico with each door holding a different panel configurations.

What does home mean to you? Where do you feel most at home? How does home shape your identity and make you feel safe? How does it provide the space for you to be creative?80 years ago, Plymouth was emerging from the shadow of the Blitz. Planner Patrick Abercrombie and Plymouth City Engineer and Surveyor James Paton Watson’s ‘A Plan for Plymouth’ (1943) had outlined ambitious ideas for the rebuilding of the city, while Jill Craigie’s film ‘The Way We Live’ (1946) was showing what post-war family life looked like, and had taken a radical approach by engaging local residents rather than professional actors to ask questions about how people wanted to live. Now, in 2026, the city stands on the threshold of another era of major regeneration – one that isn’t just thinking about years but decades. As Plymouth embarks on this defining new chapter The Way We Live uses archival collections, sculpture, installation, painting, photography and film to explore ideas of home, housing and community and consider the wider debate about how we want to live in the future. For further information click here.

THE WAY WE LIVE

Galerist celebrates its 25th anniversary with Labour of Love, an exhibition bringing together nearly 50 artists whose practices have shaped the gallery’s identity since its founding. Opening on 16 September 2026, the exhibition brings together significant works that have marked Galerist’s history alongside newly produced works, tracing artistic affinities, long-standing relationships and shared commitments. Founded in 2001, Galerist has developed its programme around long-term relationships with artists from different generations, intellectual exchange and a sustained dialogue grounded in continuity. Across nearly 200 exhibitions, the gallery has provided space for emerging artistic practices while supporting the development of established ones; it has safeguarded artistic legacies and contributed to the international visibility of contemporary art from Türkiye. Bringing together different generations, media and artistic approaches, with a commitment to equal gender representation, this artist-centred approach forms the foundation of Galerist’s 25-year history.Rather than looking at this history through its archive, Labour of Love opens up a reflection on Galerist through the works of the artists who have shaped it. The works brought together in the exhibition can be read as self-portraits within the artists’ individual practices, while collectively forming a portrait of Galerist itself. Here, the notion of the self-portrait extends beyond an image representing the artist, encompassing recurring forms, material choices, gestures, symbols, methods of production and the conceptual concerns that define an artistic practice. The title of the exhibition brings into focus the often invisible labour, care, commitment and belief that lie at the heart of artistic production and long-standing relationships. It also points to the sustained effort required to build a gallery over time, through relationships with artists, institutions, art professionals, collectors and audiences. Rather than commemorating a completed past, the exhibition celebrates a story that is still being written; while honouring twenty-five years of Galerist’s journey, it also looks towards the future made possible by these enduring relationships.Labour of Love brings together works by : mentalKLINIK, Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin, Haluk Akakçe, Yeşim Akdeniz, Rasim Aksan, Francesco Albano, Semiha Berksoy, Hera Büyüktaşcıyan, Taner Ceylan, Hussein Chalayan, Michael Craig-Martin, Ergin Çavuşoğlu, İpek Duben, Ayşe Erkmen, Leylâ Gediz, Kendell Geers, Anton Henning, Mustafa Hulusi, İdil İlkin, Merve İşeri, Şahin Kaygun, Nuri Kuzucan, Arik Levy, Merve Morkoç, Youssef Nabil, Julian Opie, Lara Ögel, Serkan Özkaya, Güçlü Öztekin, Seza Paker, Thomas Ruff, Sarkis, Yusuf Sevinçli, Erinç Seymen, Arslan Sükan, Murat Şahinler, Ali Emir Tapan, Evren Tekinoktay, Ayça Telgeren, Defne Tesal, Margaret R. YBA & BEYOND - British Art in the 90s from the Tate Collection

Baldwin Gallery is pleased to present ‘A Quotidian Life’, the second solo exhibition of British artist Gavin Turk in Aspen. The exhibition will present a recent series of still-life paintings that pay homage to early 20th century Italian artist Giorgio Morandi. In typical Turk style he has subverted Morandi’s serene arrangements of vases and handmade vessels, by replacing the models with quotidian product packaging.Looking at the precious and overlooked nature of product packaging, I have become a domestic anthropologist, attempting to uncover the conspiracy of blindness imposed by ideological perspectives. - Gavin Turk The paintings in this anachronistic series are meticulously executed in a restricted tonal palette against a monochrome ground, some of the objects are highlighted in accents of colour, inviting a close study of rhythmically arranged lines and forms. The audience is encouraged to explore this curious juxtaposition, as empty containers from used products are elevated to classical models, while simultaneously reminding us of our consumer driven culture. Turk began this project by preserving and cataloguing used disposable packaging, in what the artist refers to as ‘an exercise in self-portraiture’. The artwork titles list the products depicted in each composition, Turk offers a glimpse into his consumption habits, prompting reflection on the significance of these mundane artifacts as traces of human presence over time. As Turk aptly states, "We are what we throw away." Each work is set within a bespoke frame, suggesting a distinctive historical journey for each piece, culminating in their convergence for this exhibition. Through this exploration, the viewers are challenged to reconsider the implications of their daily consumer choices and draw awareness to the nostalgia and branding of consumer products. Turk is renowned for transforming banal, overlooked objects – refuse bags, apple cores, matchboxes, Styrofoam cups, shipping containers, candle – into intricately constructed works of fine art, whether through his hand-painted bronzes or masterful canvas paintings, overthrowing art historical conventions, disrupting the canon, questioning authorship, and imploring critique of human behaviour and our relationship to relics of our time. This ingenious new body of work is at once tongue-in-cheek, visually, and technically compelling, familiarly nostalgic, and provokes imperative reflection.

Q: When is a door not a door? A: When it is ajar.Ben Brown Fine Arts is pleased to present The Escapologist, the sixth solo exhibition of British artist Gavin Turk at the London gallery. The exhibition showcases a new series of oil paintings depicting doors left ajar, each offering a glimpse into an ambiguous and surreal terrain beyond. Shown together, the works transform the gallery into a labyrinth of thresholds. Each painting functions as a portal, drawing the viewer towards a narrow opening that reveals a field of smooth, liquid brushwork. These passages dissolve into bands of luminous colour that suggest an atmospheric horizon, generating unstable optical effects that coax the eye into a false sense of depth. For more than three decades, Turk has relentlessly interrogated the systems through which belief is produced – in images, in authorship, in value – using familiar forms, art historical tropes, psychoanalytic symbols and dreamlike objects to set perceptual traps. The door is a recurring motif in his practice and, like the egg that also appears throughout his work, carries both Surrealist symbolism and art historical weight. As Turk notes, “When I see a door in a doorframe, I also see an egg. An egg is all door, in that sense, the door is both a point of departure and arrival.” A ubiquitous object, the door embodies paradox. It marks both beginnings and endings and defines the unstable relationship between inside and outside. For further information please click here.

The exhibition Everything Is Political! presented since 7 November in Clichy, will open in Senlis from 21 February 2026.This new chapter strongly asserts that politics is not confined to institutions or official discourse: it runs through our bodies, our relationships, and our imaginations. At a time of growing distrust toward structures of power, the exhibition brings to light their mechanisms, their strategies of influence, and their concrete effects on our lives. In resonance with the works shown in Clichy, the Senlis presentation reveals the fault lines of our societies: relations of domination, systems of control, and forms of violence—whether explicit or insidious. These are realities that the artists render visible, interrogate, and reframe. The aim is not shock or paralysis, but the awakening of a critical gaze and the possibility of resistance.Artists: Adel Abdessemed, Carlos Aires, Willem Andersson, Vladimir Anselm, Nasser Bakhshi, Neïl Beloufa, Barton Lidice Benes, Gilles Caron, Philippe Chancel, Andy Denzler, Raymond Depardon, Subodh Gupta, Greg Haberny, Debora Hirsch, Alain Josseau, Naji Kamouche, Youcef Korichi, Rachel Labastie, Dorothea Lange, Senzeni Marasela, Filip Markiewicz, Antoni Miralda, Roghayeh Najdi, Stéphane Pencréac’h, Gilles Saussier, Leszek Skurski, Gavin Turk.

Celebrating four decades of ground-breaking contemporary art, The Long Now is an expansive group show presenting new works by iconic artists closely associated with the Gallery’s dynamic history, alongside fresh voices from a new generation.Spanning two floors and nine major exhibition spaces, the exhibition features special commissions, installations, painting and sculpture, and culminates with Richard Wilson’s iconic 20:50. A landmark in Saatchi Gallery’s history, 20:50 has been shown at each of the Gallery’s past locations and now, for the first time, is presented on the top floor.Filling the space with recycled engine oil, it creates a mirrored environment that both disorients and captivates. In the context of today’s climate crisis, the work takes on renewed resonance, inviting reflection on the fragility of our surroundings, community, and environmental uncertainty. The Long Now takes its name from a concept of fostering long-term thinking and challenging throwaway culture. Newly created works appear alongside historic pieces that remain impactful and relevant, continuing Saatchi Gallery’s tradition of showing art of the present while giving artists the space to realise ambitious ideas. The exhibition opens with works exploring process and mark-making – a fundamental human gesture reimagined by Alice Anderson, Rannva Kunoy and Carolina Mazzolari. This spirit of experimentation runs through works by Tim Noble, André Butzer, Dan Colen, Jake Chapman and Polly Morgan, who push subject, style and scale. At the centre stands Jenny Saville’s monumental Passage (2004). Combining strength and beauty, it exemplifies her ambition to “be a painter of modern life, and modern bodies.” The work anchors the exhibition’s energy, inviting a powerful and intimate encounter with the human form.Painting, a constant in Saatchi Gallery’s programme, is further represented by Alex Katz, Michael Raedecker, Ansel Krut, Martine Poppe and Jo Dennis, alongside new and emerging voices who continue to expand the medium’s possibilities.Immersive installations shift the focus from viewing to participation. Allan Kaprow’s YARD, with its chaotic arrangement of tyres, encourages movement and play, while Conrad Shawcross’s suspended Golden Lotus (Inverted) transforms a vintage car into a kinetic sculpture, prompting reflection on transformation, agency and the role of the viewer. The exhibition raises questions of technology and the future, with Chino Moya, Mat Collishaw and Tom Hunter reflecting on surveillance, automation and AI – considering how the digital world permeates contemporary life.Themes of fragility and climate change weave throughout. Gavin Turk’s fractured Bardo suggests cultural decay and the precarious balance between permanence and collapse, while works by Olafur Eliasson, Chris Levine and Frankie Boyle use light to create moments of contemplation. Environmental concerns are explored by Edward Burtynsky, Steven Parrino, Peter Buggenhout, Ibrahim Mahama, Ximena Garrido Lecca and Christopher Le Brun, who address extraction, waste and renewal.Curated by Philippa Adams (Senior Director, Saatchi Gallery 1999- 2020).Featured artists: Alice Anderson, Olivia Bax, Frankie Boyle, Edward Burtynsky, Peter Buggenhout, André Butzer, Jake Chapman, Mat Collishaw, Dan Colen, John Currin, Jo Dennis, Zhivago Duncan, Olafur Eliasson, Rafael Gómezbarros, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Damien Hirst, Tom Hunter, Henry Hudson, Alex Katz, Allan Kaprow, Maria Kreyn, Ansel Krut, Rannva Kunoy, Christopher Le Brun, Chris Levine, Ibrahim Mahama, Carolina Mazzolari, Jeff McMillan, Misha Milovanovich, Polly Morgan, Ryan Mosley, Chino Moya, Tim Noble, Alejandro Ospina, Steven Parrino, Martine Poppe, Michael Raedecker, Sterling Ruby, Jenny Saville, Conrad Shawcross, Soheila Sokhanvari, John Squire, Dima Srouji, Gavin Turk, Richard Wilson, Alexi Williams Wynn.

The Long Now: Saatchi Gallery at 40

Unit presents Don’t Look Back, an energetic, multi-layered exhibition that channels the raw creative drive of the 1990s and early 2000s – an era defined by bold, irreverent gestures – into today’s world. In a time marked by uncertainty and cultural pause, that same urgency feels vital now, with Don’t Look Back tapping into a renewed impulse to make, to gather and to act. Through painting, sculpture, performance and installation, the exhibition brings together a cross-generational group of artists whose work captures the restless momentum of collective creativity.Curated by Beth Greenacre and Sigrid Kirk, the exhibition re-examines the ‘90s & Noughties through a contemporary lens – one that is more inclusive, diverse, and alive with possibility. Don’t Look Back celebrates the vitality, grit and humour found across different communities at that time, and how that spirit continues to evolve in its embrace of queer voices, powerful female identities and broader expressions of individuality that stretch far beyond the laddish narratives often attached to the period. The curators note, “With Don’t Look Back, we set out to create a defining cultural moment that reflects on the evolving legacies of the 1990s and 2000s while looking decisively forward. Staged like a multi‐gig event, it rips up the rulebook on what an exhibition can be, reimagining that era’s defiance through today’s expansive artistic expressions. It avoids nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, instead foregrounding experimentation, humour, and the idea of a living legacy.”At the time, artists like Sarah Lucas, Tracey Emin, Richard Billingham and Gavin Turk pushed boundaries in visual art, confronting norms with playful irreverence and raw honesty. While this convergence of art and music was quickly courted by New Labour’s “Cool Britannia,” it also sowed seeds of defiance and DIY experimentation that artists continue to build on today. Don’t Look Back questions how these legacies endure, reimagined through more intersectional and inclusive lenses. The exhibition structure reflects the charged atmosphere of a live gig, with audiences moving through spaces that echo the momentum of a live performance, from grassroots creativity and the collective energy of shared space, to slower, more introspective works that speak to desire, fragility, and the deeply personal stakes of artistic production.

Gavin Turk Lite, 2009

Unit presents Don’t Look Back, an energetic, multi-layered exhibition that channels the raw creative drive of the 1990s and early 2000s – an era defined by bold, irreverent gestures – into today’s world. In a time marked by uncertainty and cultural pause, that same urgency feels vital now, with Don’t Look Back tapping into a renewed impulse to make, to gather and to act. Through painting, sculpture, performance and installation, the exhibition brings together a cross-generational group of artists whose work captures the restless momentum of collective creativity.

Don't Look Back

This show brings together provocative works that explore illusion, irony, and cultural reflection. Gavin Turk contributes Giraffe (cockney rhyming slang for laugh) a bronze sculpture of a dried banana - a nod to Maurizio Cattelan’s art meme. Through alchemy and parody, Turk questions authorship and authenticity, turning a throwaway object into an enduring monument. Set within Akita’s industrial heritage, the exhibition invites dialogue between material and meaning, humour and history. Featuring international artists from The Taguchi Art Collection.

“Andy Warhol: My True Story”, curated by Jean Wainwright at Newlands House offers a fresh perspective on Andy Warhol in an intimate presentation of drawings, prints, photographs, recordings, films, and archival paraphernalia. From drawings such as Man with Hearts and a fictitious One Million Dollar Bill, screenprints including Mona Lisa (Four times), photographs by contemporaries like Bob Adelman’s Andy Warhol Empties his Boots after being Pushed into the Pool by Edie Sedgewick, and an intimate film of his mother, we glimpse a very human Warhol experimenting with ideas and subject matter. Warhol was an inveterate collector and observer, and his early drawings reveal both his fascination with the ordinary and the way he processed and communicated his subject matter in his own particular style, developing themes which recur and evolve in his later works. The exhibition intertwines artworks, photographs, objects and artefacts with reflective recordings of his entourage, those closest to him, and his family. What is revealed is an elusive and private man, hiding behind a public party-going persona, with his wig and dark glasses and provocative soundbites, creator of his Factories and iconic artworks and producer of the Velvet Underground. His prescience and lasting influence are also witnessed through artworks by contemporary artists such as Gavin Turk and Rob and Nick Carter, his “brand” exemplified through Warhol-themed objects and memorabilia. In this intimate and personal show, we experience Warhol in different ways as each room reveals a facet of him as well as those he inspired. The domestic spaces of Newlands House Gallery, a Grade II-listed 18th Century townhouse, seem fitting for an exhibition that offers unexpected narratives on one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.Jean Wainwright, an internationally recognised Warhol expert, is a London-based art historian, critic and curator. Her work most prominently features interviews with international artists, photographers, filmmakers, and curators. As a writer and academic, her interviews can be found in the numerous books, catalogues, monologues, and peer-reviewed journals, and she has appeared widely in the media, including national radio and television. A Professor of Contemporary Art and Photography at the University for the Creative Arts, Wainwright has a particular interest in authenticity in the artist interview and finding the artist’s “voice”.

Back to the Cave: The Full Spectrum
23 May – 31 August 2025 Curated by Rungwe Kingdon and Claude Koenig In collaboration with Gallery PangolinBACK TO THE CAVE: THE FULL SPECTRUM is an exhibition of modern and contemporary sculpture, curated by Rungwe Kingdon and Claude Koenig, that will take place in the ancient Clearwell Caves from 23 May–31 August 2025. The exhibition, focused on the theme of colour, will involve just under sixty British and international modern and contemporary artists, and include works by Geoffrey Clarke, Lynn Chadwick, Maggi Hambling,Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Polly Morgan, Conrad Shawcross, Gavin Turk, Monira Al Qadiri, Tavares Strachan, Liz West and Hannah Lim.Visitors to the exhibition will follow a planned route – 550 metres long and up to 30.5 metres below ground – where they will encounter a combination of known sculptures in a new underground setting, together with new and site-specific works. Orchestrated by Gallery Pangolin, together with the highly-skilled logistics team from Pangolin Editions, it is the ochre mined at Clearwell Caves, that has prompted the theme of the exhibition: to tell a story of colour. Rungwe Kingdon, the founder of Pangolin Editions and a maker, explains: “This exhibition is an exploration of sculpture in an environment which echoes that of the earliest art we know. Contemporary sculpture comes in a dizzying array of images and media and, so as to make some sense of the diversity and create a contemporary context, Claude [Koenig] and I have chosen colour as a unifying theme. It remains an important reason the caves still function, mining the ochre pigments for artists’ paints. We are going to take visitors on a journey through colour, along the passages and through the caverns of Clearwell Caves.”Confirmed modern and contemporary artists in Back To The Cave: The Full Spectrum will include: Monira Al Qadiri, Olivia Bax, Bruce Beasley, Hamish Black, Julie Brook, Jon Buck, Rachel Carter, Daniel Chadwick, Lynn Chadwick, Alex Chinneck, Ann Christopher, Geoffrey Clarke, Terence Coventry, Rayvenn D’Clark, Ian Dawson, Steve Dilworth,Paul De Monchaux, Abigail Fallis, Sally Fawkes, Sue Freeborough, Antony Gormley, Nigel Hall, Maggi Hambling, Nicola Hicks, Damien Hirst, John Hoskin, Steve Hurst, Richard Jackson, Jonathan Kingdon, Bryan Kneale, Hannah Lim, Jeff Lowe, Sarah Lucas, Susie MacMurray, Anita Mandl, Briony Marshall, Charlotte Mayer, Polly Morgan, Daniel Nadler, Breon O’Casey, Eilis O’Connell, Isaac Okwir, Peter Oloya, Angela Palmer, Merete Rasmussen, Colin Reid, Lorraine Robbins, Conrad Shawcross, STIK,Tavares Strachan, Almuth Tebbenhoff, Lisa Traxler, William Tucker, Gavin Turk, Keith Tyson, Patricia Volk, Moritz Waldemeyer, Jason Wason, and Liz West. For further information click here.
